Species: Givathe (plural Givantheuan or Givantheuans)

Kerrylguire came from the Soldier caste with a career in exploratory expeditions to newly discovered worlds. With their options more limited for colonizing new planets suitable for the Givantheuan species and with intergalactic politics and budgetary restraints limiting the opportunities to do more than guard duty in established colonies or at home Kerrylguire decided to muster out of the service at the age of 36 (Earth) years. On Givantheua he faced a future of clan administrative duties, training, or garrison duty in the event of a very unlikely war. He'd also be expected to participate in an arranged marriage to a women he'd never met and who he'd never even live with anyway.

Taking his savings to travel off world he joined up with a the Gant Group, a corporate organization of bounty hunters who specialized in above-board bounties placed by valid law enforcement agencies. Based on the (extremely sunny) desert world of Alwe his exceptional senses, strength, and reflexes made him very successful in a short period of time. However, he really didn't like the constant and fairly repetitive fighting and his strong ethics against unnecessary killing made his job much more dangerous than for others doing the same job. After being recruited for a position as a bodyguard he discovered a career he could more completely appreciate.

As a bodyguard Kerrylguire can be a bit unnerving due to his appearance, especially out of his armor, with the waving tentacles around his head when he's alert and the fact that you can't ever tell what he's looking at. He also tends to not turn around and face you if you talk to him although, socially, he's learning to do so anyway for the ease of others. With the armor on the "tentacle waving" isn't necessary due to the advantage of the sensory apparatus providing coverage without unnecessary motion. This often results in him being requested to spend all of his time fully armored while on an assignment. He's willing to do this but it does tend to make him feel more isolated and a bit sad. His need for sun light makes some jobs more difficult and limits his duties somewhat. Many larger ships have a sun room anyway but this pretty much requires him to sleep there or set up lamps in his quarters; he does carry a set of lamps with him but they aren't nearly as good as the real thing.

For weaponry, Kerrylguire very much prefers non-lethal energy weapons or, where energy weapons aren't useful, a variety of chemical or biological agents capable of rendering various species unconscious. He is certainly capable of using bladed weapons, part of his exploratory training, but generally avoids them unless there is a special need or request requiring this. He still retains some of the equipment he purchased as a bounty hunter including adhesive grenades and web bolos (twin spheres joined by a cable which emit a sticky web like substance as they spin around a target). All of his personal weaponry is fitted for a Givathe and, particularly with firearms, would be difficult for another species to operate. He can use weapons of other species if they are large enough for his hands but would prefer not to.

Despite his size, intimidating appearance, and training as a soldier, Kerrylguire is actually a kind person with a good sense of humor. However, his humor generally developed during his youthful training and tours of duty surrounded by other bored soldiers and he tends to be a prankster when he is in friendly surroundings.

While ready for action, and alert by nature, he has a calm disposition and, at this point in his life, he is also happy to take on "easy" jobs where other bodyguards might tend to get bored and lax. Kerrylguire might be relaxed or look like he's contemplating his navel but he is always absolutely aware of what is going on around him. Even when he sleeps his senses can alert him when needed.

He is also a strict vegetarian and has a fondness for pasta. He loves music which contains a lot of bass and complex rhythms but, fortunately for anyone sleeping around him, doesn't need to play it particularly loudly to enjoy it.

Kerrylguire first met Benjamin Noble when Benjamin wanted protection to do business on a rather dodgy colony on the edge of settled and explored space called Stanislaw’s Reach (or "The Reach"). A bust following a long period of rapid and lucrative growth had left the colony with a rather large population with poor opportunities to make a living. Still, this was the only base for resupply to get him where he was intending to travel for charting potential resources further away from settled space. Before setting out Benjamin hired Kerrylguire simply because he was the scariest looking person available. Gladys, Benjamin's AI, vetted the hire and paid more attention to Kerrylguire's actual background and reputation before even presenting him as an option.

The trip out to Stanislaw’s Reach would take a week aboard Benjamin's ship, the Dancing Angel, before his duties even started. There was also an option to stay on longer if Benjamin wanted to hire Kerrylguire for his scouting trip as well. Things got off to a good start when Benjamin didn't insist on Kerrylguire wearing his armor while onboard and wasn't bothered by his appearance; Benjamin did insist he wear pant though. Kerrylguire was happy to wear his casual "silks". On an even more unexpected note, Kerrylguire noticed he didn't need to use the sun room or lamps while travelling with Benjamin.

As it turned out the trip to The Reach was one of the few times that Benjamin's paranoia about being attacked was justified as he was targeted by a group of kidnappers as soon as he arrived. Benjamin didn't even know about the almost-ambush until after he returned to his ship and was contacted by authorities. Kerrylguire had sussed out the would be kidnappers and their weaponry before they even broke cover, looked up their open bounties, and quietly reported their presence to the authorities. He was sensitive enough to Benjamin's obvious concerns to not say anything to him; merely delaying and changing his route until after the police had found the criminals.

Needless to say, Benjamin was extremely happy with this result. Not knowing about it until afterwards was especially appreciated.

During their months long charting mission Benjamin designed a portable generator which radiated the ambient energy of a type found naturally in the Givantheuan home system. It could be fitted to his armor as well as used separately to avoid the need for exposure to sunlight. Benjamin gave Kerrylguire permission to patent the device and it later saw widespread use by travelling Givantheuans."
