Tattoo design sketchbook project: shigeki.zumi: ballpoints vol.01 (pending title)
Medium: ballpoint pen

PLEASE don't ask to use. Be inspired, but do not copy in anyway. If you want to buy the original work, I don't know if I'll be selling them. If I do, I'll make a journal. Please don't ask when, as I don't know :) But your interest is appreciated.

Again, Please don't ask to use. If you want a tattoo design, please look through my commission info page: [link]

These are all at least 1-3 years old. Numbered in the order I did them (the lower the number = the older it is). Have about 4 or 5 even newer ones, which I'll post later. STILL intend to do the book though.

These designs are basically what I'd love to tattoo, and what I intend to have my future tattooing portfolio be filled with. Currently looking for a shop or booth to rent. I'll post a journal about that soon. Will be really putting in work once I move residency.

I GREATLY look forward to get back into tattooing!

hello, nice 2012 work.

i would like to copy the fish for a half sleeve i'm planing.. only the fish without the mask, it would be integrated with a dragon as the dragon up and the koi is down..

is it ok to take only the koi without all the rest?

Thank you for the consideration in asking. I appreciate it.
Although, as stated twice: "PLEASE don't ask to use. Be inspired, but do not copy in anyway". Copy means: To make similar or identical. So no, it's never okay. And I would never give permission for such a thing.
I highly suggest you either, commission me for a koi tattoo design, or you trust your tattoo artist (and I do hope they are a tattoo artist and not a simple tattooist), to create something original and amazing for you.

It looks like you're trying to find excuses to disrespect my wishes concerning a piece I do in fact own. Size and direction are irrelevant--Actually, to be extremely honest, you're entire logic is (to put it bluntly), completely ass backwards.

By "koi fish shape", I take that to mean the style. Because "shape" is an aspect which defines "style", and so recognizability.
I honestly have not studied the copyright laws as extinsively as I believe I should (enough to provide an exact passage to school you properly). But from all that I do know, and have studied, "recognizability" is key with copyright.
This koi fish "shape" is not just another koi fish, it is MY koi fish: because lines make the shape, which presents the style. Which is my copyright.

The fact that you are trying to claim a legal right around me, makes you incredibly disrespectful and fake: You asked for my permission, I said no, then you turn around and essentially say " I don't care about your permission, I'm going to do what I want anyway". Even worse, you're trying to make excuses (weak and ridiculously ignorant excuses) for yourself to do so. From this point, I can't help but see your politeness and "respect" as a fabrication.

I can't stop you from using my work. But you if you do go against my wishes, it will not only show you truly have no respect for me or my work, but that you have no honor as well. If you take it to a tattoo artist, they ask who did the piece, and you lie in anyway, that'll just lesson your value as a human even further. If you tell the tattooer the truth and they use it anyway, then not only are they not a real artist, but they're on the same low as you would be.

I do still implore you have the tattooer, or find someone, to design a custom koi just for you. One that would never be found outside of your tattoo (and the original drawing). One reason why I will never give permission for someone to use one of my works that was not made for them, is because I believe all tattoos should be unique + who knows how many dishonorable, unimaginative, pieces of shit have (who knew I was the artist) used my work without permission? Of the ones I know of, they're all done terribly. Which doesn't make me feel "it serves them right". It just makes me sad they didn't go to a actual tattoo artist, and now they have a poor translation of one of MY works on them.

I'll say one last time: you don't have permission to use my styled koi. Or any of my other works. In fact, even if you were interested, please don't ever contact me for a commission; I won't accept any business from you. If you continuing showing disrespect, I'll ban you from my DA page.

Hi, you took me too seriously.. I was just joking..

I do respect you as an artist or any other artist that can do this kind of magic with a pen like you do.

I really meant it when I was asking you permission and will never do anything against your wishes without your full consent and blessing!

I am really sorry that you misunderstood the joking tone of my words..

I don't have nothing to do with copyrights and it was all in a funny way.. I never got a tattoo before and thinking about it seriously this days, saw your work and was blown away!

I truly think you do an amazing work and you are a great artist.

I even saw on your page the new service you provide for people to buy tattoo sketches from you that would be unique for the person who orders and it will be one of a kind.. something I'm greatly considering of doing..

I totally support everything you said in your replay!

So again, please accept my sincere apology for any misunderstanding that occurred, never meant to show you any disrespect!

On top of asking you to please accept my sincere apology, I will even ask you to delete all of the treads and to start a clean slate.

Considering the emotional limitations of text, and the fact that we are strangers discussing professional courtesy, you shouldn't joke like that. To be honest, when people claim to be joking after they're called out on it, rather than leaving some kind of "j/k" tag somewhere in the apparent joke, I call bullshit. Despite that, thank you for the apology nonetheless.

And...I believe people are entitled to a second chance. So if you are indeed interested in a commission, I would not deny you. But, If I come to question trust with you again (whether or not you meant it) , then I really must cut ties.

Thank you for your time, and interest.

If I'd ever made a tatto, It would be this one of yours!! ))
fydbac Featured By Owner Mar 7, 2014  Professional General Artist
No you wouldn't: cause I don't give people permission to replicate my existing work as a tattoo, and it would be disrespectful if you did it anyway. And you don't "make" tattoos; since it is also a verb.

If you do tattoo, I hope you tattoo an original design of your very own (that is better than this). Perhaps inspired by this, but never copying any part of it.

I just tried to pay you a compliment.
You took it to serious. And wrong.

Thanks for the grammar lesson anyway.

Though I read it wrong: thank you for digging the piece.

Unfortunately, I get so many people seriously mentioning they are going to use the piece in some way, that with the way you worded your comment, I couldn't help but perceive your words the way I did.

I hate when people try to school someone on grammar unnecessarily, so I only ever do it if I get the strong impression that english isn't the first language, or I feel what their english error is too huge for me to simply let slide and risk them repeating the mistake: And since I am still not fluent in my own second language (japanese), I understand the feeling, and welcome if someone corrects me without me I won't repeat it in the future.

With your wording, I deduced that either 1) english was not your first language, 2) you were just having an "off" day if you will. or 3) It's just how you speak. I choose "1)" because of several cascading reasonings.

With that, I must mention: it's "too" serious, not "to". Or you simply slipped and missed the "o".

I'm not askin' folks to be perfect, that'll be ridiculous, especially since I'm not. "Made a tattoo" just sounds too wrong. "Did a tattoo" sounds better: I don't think it's perfect, but much better flow and connotation than "made".

Sorry for the lengthy reply; guess I'm just in a talkative mood. Hope you don't mind too much :)

Thank you for the reply)

"because of several cascading reasonings" is a good expression))
And this is the only thing I will copy for my own use without asking your permission))
