Chow 93: The apple Gatherer medium: red pencil | copic multiliners | photoshop cs
Brief :
"Time period: Turn of the century (1900's England, Northern Europe or North East U.S.).
The Apple Gatherer is an outdoor bogeyman. Sublime, subtle, deceitful and malicious. He is known to keep company with goblins, kobolds, redcaps and other foul ferries. He is especially fond of children, small dogs, and farm cats. Seen most frequently in apple orchards, he haunts only during the twilight hours, when he is most likely to catch a farmer's child lingering unawares. Focus on the psychology and emotional impact of the character. He needs to be believable and frightening"
I know this might seem odd, but the part I like best is how you've designed his feet. You could have gone with hooves or chicken feet, but instead you went with a design I rarely see. Hooves on a biped bother me. I'm always thinking they'll either sink in the mud or slip and fall on a hard surface. You've given him a nice wide stable looking platform and the legs appear to be designed for them.
This is a beautiful marriage between unconscious belief in fantasy and the undying creativity of lore. This is an amazing piece. These creatures are nigh believable. Congrats on yet another striking piece.
Not only is the character itself amazing, the info on him gives him that darker feel.
